Become An Appraiser Trainee

Pre-training Assistance

To qualify to work as an appraiser trainee, an individual must complete certain state required course work. As part of our sponsorship of the Appraiser Diversity Initiative, we mentor prospective trainees in completion of the required education. Mentorship includes information about the appraisal industry, what it is like being an appraiser and providing additional resources and industry websites to learn more about the profession.

We also provide access to veteran appraisers for any questions that come up in the education process.

Training Curriculum

Comprehensive Exam

To become a state licensed appraiser, trainees must successfully pass a comprehensive examination administered by a state or territory that is issued or endorsed by the Appraiser Qualifications Board of The Appraisal Foundation.

The course work and mentoring we provide within the training program is structured to assist trainees in passing the license exam.  Further, we provide test-prep and knowledge review to prepare each trainee for the state exam.

Initial Education

VATP will provide qualified candidates with the educational materials to pass the pre-appraiser Trainee exam. Further educational documents will be provided throughout your training period as you progress to a full appraisal license.

Inspection Boot Camp

During the initial training period, you will complete appraisal inspections with your Supervisory Trainer, in-person, until it is deemed you have mastered the required inspection skills. For the remainder of your training period you will be provided a video camera for your Supervisor to co-inspect virtually.

Field Work

For the remainder of your training period you will be responsible for completion of appraisal assignments in conjunction with your Supervisory Appraiser Trainer.
